With a respectable third place finish at the Oakley Pro Junior in Ubatuba, Brazil in 2008, Sao Paulo’s Miguel Pupo just missed out on qualifying for the Oakley Global Challenge. So what did he do? He hopped a plane across the Atlantic to Lacanau and crushed all the Euros. “I am super stoked”, Pupo would say after his victory. “The final was very hard to win and I never expected to finish ahead of such good surfers. I was lucky to get a bomb and make this big air.” In the end where he qualified is of little consequence, as thanks to his bravado and willingness to go for broke he has to be considered a threat in any and all conditions. He definitely proved to be a formidable opponent when everybody amassed in Bali for the Oakley Global Challenge Finals in 2008, placing equal 5th after taking out Kaito Ohasahi (JAP), Romain Cloitre (FRA) before eventually being stopped by Shaun Jobert (ZAF).
