CHARGING FOR THE LEAD: DIMITRI OUVRE SMASHES INTO SAN SEBASTIAN SEMIFINALS
The young phenom from the French Island of Guadalupe slashed his way into Saturday’s semifinals at Oakley Pro Junior San Sebastian – racking up the highest heat score of the day on Friday.
Dimitri Ouvre has been straight ripping.
Dazzling both the judges and the sprawling Basque Country crowd on Zurriola Beach, Ouvre threw down a stylish Frontside Rail Grab to claim the day’s “Best Air” and a commanding 9.27 for the day’s highest score.
His combined heat total of 15.77 marked the third highest of the day – sending him into the semifinals in top form and with positive momentum.
Tom Cloarec of France and Vasco Ribeiro of Portugal also charged into the semifinals with impressive quarterfinal performances on Friday. Ribeiro, ranked No. 1 in the overall ASP Europe Juniors standings coming into the event, displayed his intent to fight for the Basque Country trophy. Sufficed to say, there’s plenty of incentive for both he and Ouvre to come away with the victory.
Ouvre, according to ASP Europe Juniors overall point tallies, would take the overall Championship lead by a single point if he does in fact triumph in San Sebastian. Coming off impressive performances at Somo (where he emerged with the win) and Reunion (runner-up finisher), he seems to be the most poised to power to the top of the standings.
Safe to say that the finals today will be heated and intense – as two of Europe’s best and brightest vie for an advantage in the race for the Championship.
