2010 OAKLEY WORLD PRO JUNIOR TO BE FEATURED ON NBC’S WORLD OF ADVENTURE SPORTS
NEW YORK, New York, July 14th 2011—The World of Adventure Sports® (WOAS), an action and adventure sports series, will air on Saturday, July 16th at 2:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT. Host,Todd Harris of NBC Sports brings viewers the fourth episode of the 2011 season from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
The next episode will feature:
- Oakley World Pro Junior 2010: The Oakley ASP World Pro Junior is a unique surfing event on the wave rich island of Bali, Indonesia. The event is the first stop of the prestigious ASP World Junior Tour, and eventually crowning the 20 and under world champion.Two-world class breaks are utilized for the event, moving depending on conditions. The field is made up of 64 international competitors from throughout the world including Brazil, USA, Hawaii, Australia, Japan, and France. The men and women are competing for a combined prize purse of $95,000.
- Red Bull Surf Trip- Marshall Islands: Surf exploration is nearly as old as surfing itself but no matter how far we look, the next frontier is still on the horizon. This winter, Red Bull athletes Levi Siver, Jason Polakow and Kai Lenny joined legendary boat captain Martin Daly and the rest of the Oxbow Waterman Team in the wild and remote Marshall Islands. Equipped with windsurfers, kites, stand-up boards, long and shortboards no waves went unridden.
- Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2011: On June 26, Rhys Millen once again will try to break the world record in the unlimited class, at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2011. In order to be completely prepared and to avoid last year’s technical difficulties it is all about testing right now, and what better support could Rhys wish for than his father, Rod Millen, Pikes Peak world record holder 1994–2007.
- Wakeskating Pioneers: Wakeskating is an adaptation of wakeboarding in which riders are not bound to the board in any way, allowing for more technical skateboarding-influenced tricks like kickflips, as well as the use of water obstacles like rails and ramps. Wakeskaters can be towed behind boats, jet skis or even specially designed on-shore winches, making the rapidly growing sport much more accessible. Wakeskaters have typically worn skate shoes that provide maximum purchase on their boards but quickly get heavy and waterlogged. Teva riders Matt Hooker and Matt Crowhurst sport the Teva Gnarkosi which is a high-performance wakeskate water shoe and show us that the progression of wakeskating has no boundaries!
