CAIO IBELLI WINS THE 2010 OAKLEY PRO JUNIOR BRAZIL

Monday, June 7, 2010

Florianopolis, Brazil, June 7, 2010 – The 2010 Oakley Pro Junior Brazil held the final day of competition at Praia do Campeche yesterday to capitalize on the superior swell battering that section of the Brazilian coastline. After a full week of challenging conditions the eight finalists were rewarded with near perfect conditions and fun, contestable waves for their final rounds.

However, it was the Paulista Caio Ibelli (SP), 17, who made the most of the improved waves. He launched a huge aerial to open his final round heat against Marco Fernandaz (BA) for a impressive 8.33 out of a possible 10 points, which was quickly followed by another strong score of 7.0 to seal the victory. Caio Ibelli is the 2010 Oakley Pro Junior Brazilian Champion!

As the champion he has secured critical ratings points for the main division of the Brazilian Circuit training for next year. “I’m very happy just to be competing in this wonderful place, with high waves,” said Caio Ibelli just after the final heat. “I risked everything on my first wave, because I knew that Marco [Fernandez] was surfing really well the whole event, so I had to start well to [put the pressure on] him. I came here focused on this title and I’m also stoked [to be guaranteed a place among] the elite of Brazilian surfing, because [I] was behind the Access Division and now I can rest easier by already having confirmed my name in Brazil Surf Pro 2011.”

After a second successful Oakley Pro Junior Brazil in Santa Catarina, Oakley Manager for Brazil, Luis Henrique Saboia a.k.a. Pinga has already confirmed that the 2011 contest will return to the state. “We want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the event, the staff of Santa Catarina Surf Federation and associations here Joaquina and Campeche [as well as] the support of the City of Florianopolis,” said Pinga “[The Oakley Pro Junior will be back in Santa Catarina next year, the only thing left to be determined is which beach will be the optimal location.]”
